We decided to get away for the weekend with the dogs.  A drive to Galveston Island to spend the day at Galveston Island State Park was the plan.  We had fun building a sand castle and watching the waves.  The dogs didn’t care that much for the beach as they are just a little scared of the water.  And this is crazy water... it chases them. :)

Most of these shots are from a drive out on the Texas City Dike.  A five mile road out into the bay.  There is even a little video of some very happy gulls.  [GULLS VIDEO] There is one of some pretty little pink flowers at Galveston Island S.P.,  but that is as close to the beach as the digital camera was allowed.

The drive to and from Galveston was primarily on a very nice stretch of Highway 71.  On the way back we took the time to stop in at Stephen F. Austin State Park.  This is a very beautiful state park where the deer are very easy to see.  They just walk around the picnic area.  We had an interesting encounter with a statue of the park’s namesake.  [STATUE VIDEO]
