While some family was in town, we took an afternoon trip over to the State Capitol and the Texas State History Museum.  We started our little tour at the historic General Land Office building which is now the Visitor Information Center for the Capitol.  They had some interesting displays of Texas memorabilia, including a costume dress from Lonesome Dove.

In side the capitol, you can see how everything IS bigger in Texas.  From the door moulding to the dome and even the door hinges.  Everything is big.

At the Texas State History Museum, there was not any photography ‘allowed’ inside.  But, it is an interesting review of Texas history from early explorers, to colonization, to ranching, to oil, to space.  They have exhibits like the original “Goddess of Destiny” from the Capitol and the notebook of Jack Kilby from TI (the inventor of the transistor.)

Here is a selection of shots from that afternoon.
